A man shot dead by police after a car chase has been named locally.

Chris Kaba, 23, died in hospital in the early hours of today (Tuesday) after being shot at around 9.50pm in residential Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill.

Police from the specialist firearms unit gave chase to a black Audi up New Park Road and into Kirkstall Gardens and brought it to a halt by deliberately crashing into it.

Mr Kaba – who sources say was a rapper known as Madix – received first aid from officers at the scene before being taken to hospital, but died shortly after midnight. Reports say he was about to become a dad,

Eye witnesses reported seeing the fleeing vehicle being immobilised by two police vehicles, one having crashed into it, the other blocking its escape from behind, when the shot was fired.

A forensic tent was erected as evidence was gathered at the scene.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the police watchdog, launched an investigation into the incident immediately after being alerted.
