Exclusive: Striker’s hopes of landing AFC Wimbledon deal suffer injury setback

Carlton Cole’s hopes of an AFC Wimbledon contract have been dented after he picked up a rib injury.

The former West Ham United, Chelsea and Celtic striker – who also had a loan spell with Charlton – has been unable to train in the past few days.

Dons manager Neal Ardley told South London Press: “At the moment Carlton Cole is injured. He has injured his intercostal muscle.

“We wanted to get him another game to have another look. We are looking at our [transfer] options and have got a couple we’re looking to make in-roads into.

“He [Cole] just felt uncomfortable and missed the last two days training.

“We’ll see what happens on that one.”
