The first-half wasn’t good enough but after that we showed what we’re about – Charlton’s Albie Morgan on win over Derby

Albie Morgan felt Charlton’s second-half display during the win over Derby County was an indication of just what the side can be capable of this season.

The Addicks edged the recently relegated Rams out by a Corey Blackett-Taylor goal to nil after recovering from a first-period in which they were clearly second-best.

And Morgan, whose shot was palmed into the path of goal scorer Blackett-Taylor just beyond the hour-mark, said he didn’t need it pointed out to him that the first 45 minutes weren’t at the level required.

He said: “I hold my hands up for the first-half, it was nowhere near good enough. I don’t need people to tell me that, I know in myself that was way off where I want to be and where we want to be as a team.

“A game of two halves. A very disappointing first-half, considering what we’d worked on all week. We didn’t take that into the game. We looked a bit lost at times and I don’t think that’s us. Considering what the manager has put in place since the start of pe-season, we should have shown a lot more about us.

“Second-half, we proved what we are as a team. There’s a real difference compared to the last few years. There’s a real belief about this team and a real togetherness. That showed in the second-half when we came together. Not the prettiest but to come out with three points, something that maybe we didn’t deserve, shows the belief we have and the desire to get the three points.

“In the second-half, we dropped me as another midfielder alongside Dobbo (George Dobson). I think we managed to get out a lot more and have a lot more of a footing in the game. Coming in from the first-half I thought it couldn’t get much worse so I’m glad we got our stuff together and kicked on.”
