A cabaret-style show of bite-sized dance, comedy and music for all ages will take place at five community centres in Greenwich from March 27 to April 9.
Greenwich Dance hits the road this spring with Up My Street – Showtime! – a relaxed family-friendly show bringing high-quality professional and community dance including a love duet for two men from Rendezvous Dance, award-winning theatricality from ZoieLogic Dance Theatre, new urban lindy hop from Temujin Gill’s Grounded Movement, phenomenal street dance from youth companies NRgDance and Lotus Youth Dance Company and an inspirational performance from over-55s group Dancing to the Music of Time.
Up My Street – Showtime! opens at New Charlton Community Centre on March 27 then tours to Clockhouse Community Centre, Middle Park Community Centre, Abbey Wood Community Centre and Shrewsbury Housewith matinee and evening performances at all venues except New Charlton.
At every show Greenwich Dance will have a group of Dancing Friends, easily recognisable in yellow T-shirts, to meet and greet audiences, especially anyone arriving alone.
“These events are designed for local people to come together and have a really fun afternoon or evening out in a setting that feels like home”, said Greenwich Dance chief executive Melanie Precious.
“We can’t wait to meet people, find out what they like and dislike and introduce them to some of our artistic family as well as our youth and Over 55s groups,” said Chenube-Ruth Bailey, who is co-ordinating the events.
“Up My Street – Showtime! will let us meet groups that are already dancing in the area as we have a couple of slots free for guests in the running order.
“I’ll be out and about over the coming weeks meeting potential performers and discovering hidden talent across the borough.”
