Wigan Athletic sign Ben Amos on two-year contract – confirming Charlton keeper’s exit

Ben Amos has signed for Wigan Athletic on a two-year-deal once his Charlton Athletic contract expires.

The 31-year-old, who made 46 appearances for the Addicks, had been offered a new deal by Charlton.

Speaking to Wigan Athletic’s club website, Amos said: “I’m happy to get the deal done and all sorted. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.

“It’s exciting what’s going on here. The gaffer is able to go out and assemble his own squad, not many clubs have the opportunity to do that. You can see already, he’s building the team how he wants. We’ll be in good shape.

“The talk with the gaffer was an easy chat. I came to meet him and his staff, and we got on, he told me his philosophy and how he wants to play, what he wants to do, it was quite straightforward.

“It’s a challenge that I wanted. I’m aware of being stuck in a comfort and familiar environment and sometimes you need to step out and build new relationships. New relationships with the players, staff and fans. It’s certainly a good challenge I’m looking forward to.

“I want to keep doing that [playing games], I want to keep doing that for the rest of my career. That’s the aim and we want to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.

“It’s been weird without the fans in the stadiums, it’s going to feel a bit odd when they’re back in. But you adapt really quickly, and it’s what everyone has been missing, so I’m looking forward to it.

“Everybody is ready to get back into it now, with the fans coming back soon, so this week, we’re all back at it.”
