Please join us for an ideas exchange about Woolwich Exchange – St. Modwen and Notting Hill Genesis’ new proposals for the regeneration of the site between Plumstead Road and Spray Street, formerly known as Spray Street Quarter.
We’ve been working on this exciting project since 2016 and have learned a lot in that time. Most importantly, it is the community, not just the location, that makes Woolwich what it is.
Over the past few months we’ve been meeting with, and listening to, members of the local community.
This included a workshop with local school children and discussions with heritage groups, as well as speaking to the wider community at the Winter Warmer event. All of this is helping us to understand what it is that makes Woolwich, Woolwich.
The listing of the former covered market building means we’ve had to revise our plans.
Our new plans will retain the former covered market building and open it up for the community to enjoy, along with new public space at the heart of the site.
Our plans will also deliver new housing, including affordable housing – to help local people live locally.
A new Picturehouse cinema, along with new cafés, bars, restaurants as well as workspace, a new gym and nursery will provide a boost to the local daytime and evening economy.
Overall, we want to create an exciting new place in Woolwich to live and visit, while protecting and enhancing the area’s heritage.
We want Woolwich Exchange to be a place of cultural and social exchange. Our first community event will be a chance for that too – an opportunity to learn more about the plans, but also to meet and support other local businesses and artists.
There’ll be free popcorn on offer – to help us celebrate the news that Picturehouse is coming to Woolwich Exchange. Local artists from artFix will also be at the event, helping to bring it to life.
We want to share our plans with you and hear your views and opinions. We have some other things going on too!
On the Saturday, we’ll be joined by Whizz Bang Pop who will provide lively children’s entertainment, magic and puppet shows.
There’ll be other activities and entertainment on offer too – it’ll be an event that people of all ages can enjoy!
