Young Charlton Athletic defender signs first professional contract

Charlton Athletic defensive prospect Nathan Asiimwe has signed his first professional contract.

The 18-year-old made his league debut on the final day of the League One campaign at Cheltenham Town.

Asiimwe debuted at senior level in the EFL Trophy tie at Plymouth Argyle and marked it with an assist, setting up Karoy Anderson to score on his debut.

He was part of the U18 side that won the Professional Development League 2 title as well as the London Senior Cup recently as part of the U21 set up.

“I’m over the moon, literally, words can’t even describe it,” Asiimwe told Charlton’s official website, talking about his new deal. “It feels great. It’s been a long journey of ups and downs and I just feel relief and a great achievement. It makes me so happy to be part of such a big club and it’s like a family.

“I’m just trying to kick on now and hopefully I can establish myself in the first-team squad – that’s my main focus, my main aim.”
