Young Black Filmmakers Fund launches with £10k up for grabs
A competition exclusively designed to support young Black filmmakers with a prize fund up to £10,000 has just launched.
The Young Black Filmmakers Fund invites filmmakers to pitch short film scripts with a chance to secure funding and create their films for a premiere screening at the London Breeze Film Festival at Brixton’s Ritzy Picturehouse next year.
Alex Kayode-Kay, the BAFTA nominated director and London Breeze Film Festival Patron, is the creator behind the fund and will support and mentor the winning filmmaking team.
Scripts must be between 10 and 12 pages long, featuring a primary filmmaking team consisting of a director, writer and producer. At least one of the main members of the team must be aged between 18 and 30.
At least two members of the creative team must be Black British including either the writer or director.
A proposed budget must also be set with a maximum of £10,000.
Script submissions will open on May 1 with a deadline of August 1.
Shortlisted filmmakers will attend a closed workshop at London Breeze Film Festival in October 2025, led by My SMASH Media to develop their pitching skills before live pitching their scripts in front of a panel of judges and audience.
