Wombles back in Wimbledon to remind people to travel smart and reuse and recycle
Pick up the pieces and turn them into something new – it’s what they do.
The nation’s furry friends the Wombles have adapted their motto and spread their eco-message by covering up graffiti with a mural.
A new wall art celebrating their link with Wimbledon has been created near busy rail and tram lines in their spiritual home.
Brought out of hibernation in January, The Wombles used the 3.5x15m spot to spread their positive message of community environmentalism right in the heart of Wimbledon Town Centre.
As always, Orinoco has got in a spot of bother as the rest of the team come to the rescue.
They were recruited by Love Wimbledon to give a big welcome to Wimbledon and boost travel smart, reduce/reuse/recycle and going green to the town.
Helen Clark Bell, chief executive of Love Wimbledon, said: “It is good to see our old friends around town again – we’ve missed them.
“When people think of Wimbledon, some may think of the tennis, but we know many of us immediately think of the Wombles – after all it is their home.”
