Tyrick Mitchell seals Crystal Palace contract extension until 2025

BY SAM SMITH

Tyrick Mitchell has signed a new contract with Crystal Palace which keeps him with the South Londoners until 2025.

The young left back joined the Eagles as a 16-year-old following the restructuring of Brentford’s academy in 2016. He made his senior debut last July in a 3-0 defeat against Leicester City and has gone on to make a further 17 appearances.

Mitchell’s previous deal was due to expire this summer alongside 12 other members of Palace’s first-team squad. It was reported by the BBC earlier today that Joel Ward and Scott Dann are in talks to extend their terms.

The Brent-born Mitchell became the sixth academy graduate to make their Palace debut under Roy Hodgson. Both he and chairman Steve Parish highlighted the ÂŁ20 million renovation of the academy site upon announcing the contract.

“I’m delighted. It’s a great place to be and an exciting time so I’m delighted to sign a contract,” Mitchell said. “I can see, especially with the Academy building now and Academy players coming through, it’s a great time.”

Parish added: “This shows once again how our Academy can attract the very best young talent and develop them into first-team players. Tyrick’s progress is an immense source of pride for our club and Academy.”
