Leicester City 2 Crystal Palace 1 – Eagles beaten by stunning Iheanacho goal

BY SAM SMITH

Kelechi Iheanacho’s stunner helped Leicester City come from behind to defeat Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium.

Wilfried Zaha put Palace ahead after some excellent work by Ebere Eze. It was the Ivorian’s first goal since January.

Iheanacho set up former Eagles transfer target Timothy Castagne to slam home an equaliser early in the second half, before the Nigerian thumped in the winner with 10 minutes remaining.

This was a game that Palace could easily have won. Roy Hodgson’s side missed several chances to go ahead after Castagne’s equaliser.

Riedewald burst through on goal but bizarrely decided to pass across goal to Christian Benteke when a shot seemed the obvious option. Benteke then headed straight at Kasper Schmeichel from an Eze corner.

Instead, their only goal came midway through the first half. Eze burst through midfield and glided beyond a couple of challenges.

The 22-year-old slid Zaha on-on-one with Schmeichel, who was unable to keep out the forward’s 10th goal of the campaign.

But Leicester fought back. Iheanacho held off Cheikhou Kouyate and passed to Castagne, who leathered a left-footed shot across goal and into the roof of the net.

Vardy then finished off a smart move but was correctly adjudged to have been in an offside position. The Foxes were not to be denied though, as Iheanacho cut inside and fired into the top corner of Vicente Guaita’s goal.

As Palace sought an equaliser, Leicester broke in added-time but Guaita denied Ayoze Perez.
