Are Charlton Athletic in the League One relegation dogfight? Johnnie Jackson answers that question
Johnnie Jackson is not contemplating whether Charlton Athletic are in the relegation battle in League One, instead saying his sole focus is on having a strong finish to the season.
The Addicks are bottom of the form guide for the last six matches, taking just one point, and that poor return has seen them slump to 17th in the standings.
Charlton have a couple of pivotal matches coming up, starting with the visit of a Gillingham side tonight that could climb out of the bottom four if they were to get a positive result in SE7.
The Addicks then have 14th-placed Burton in SE7 this weekend before a short trip to AFC Wimbledon next Tuesday.
Asked if Charlton are in a drop battle, Jackson replied: “I’m not thinking about that – I’m just thinking we need to win games of football. And the rest will take care of itself.
“We’ve been on a tough run and had tough games. I am looking at a period now where I’ve got players coming back and fixtures you would expect to pick points up in, so we have to do that now. There is no hiding away from that – we’ve got to win some games of football.
“If we do that then that [relegation] won’t be an issue.
“We have to go and do it. We can’t keep not picking points up. We have to look at the rest of March as an opportunity to get some points on the board.”
