Nursery worker takes 15,000ft jump for children’s charity

A nursery practitioner took on a 15,000ft skydive to raise money for a children’s charity.

Aimee Thorpe, 31, from East Greenwich, works for Bright Horizons nursery in Chevening Road, Westcombe Park.

Ms Thorpe visited the North London Skydive Centre on July 20 to make the 15,000ft jump and raise money for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.

She said: “I saw this as a great opportunity to raise money for the foundation to go towards their mission of providing Bright Spaces for vulnerable children. 

“The cause means a lot to me because I’ve seen children and families at a disadvantage and they find themselves in areas which are supposed to offer support, yet they aren’t very relaxing settings for children to be in. 

“That’s why it’s so important we fundraise for the foundation to continue to provide relaxed and safe places for children and young families who need it.”

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and families experiencing crisis and disadvantage.

Set up in 2005, the foundation provides safe environments for children impacted by domestic violence, abuse, homelessness and illness to play.

Ms Thorpe said: “I really want to help give something to the community that I have grown up in, London is a great place but there are a lot of areas that need aid, Bright Spaces are doing a lot to help this.”

So far she has raised £1,314, exceeding her original target of £1,000.
