Crystal Palace boss Hodgson praises ‘outstanding’ debut from Lerma – as ex-Bournemouth midfielder stars in win over Sheffield United
Roy Hodgson described Jefferson Lerma’s Crystal Palace debut as “outstanding” as the midfielder played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 opening-day Premier League win over Sheffield United.
The 28-year-old was making his first competitive start for the South Londoners after joining on a free transfer from Bournemouth in the summer.
Lerma won 12 aerial battles, made two blocks and won three tackles.
He also completed 68 passes and had 82 touches.
The Eagles collected all three points at Bramall Lane thanks to Odsonne Edouard’s 49th-minute strike.
“He was outstanding today,” said Hodgson.
“He was really, really good. He was everywhere. All over the field, his defensive work was excellent and he was also very good going forward.
“He must be really happy with his debut and his day’s work. We have been impressed with him in the two matches we had with him in the US as well.
“But this was his first real debut in the Premier League for Crystal Palace.
“He came out with flying colours.”
