Crystal Palace summer signing nears playing return

Crystal Palace are hopeful that Dean Henderson can make a playing return before the end of December.

The South London Press understands the 26-year-old is making good progress as he steps up his return from a thigh injury he suffered in his debut and could feature for Darren Powell’s U21 side before returning to Roy Hodgson’s senior matchday squad.

Henderson was forced to come off 19 minutes into his first start for the club, with Sam Johnstone coming on as Palace fell to a 3-0 defeat in the EFL Cup third round clash at Manchester United.

The former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United loanee joined the Eagles in the summer for an initial £15million fee, which could rise to £20m in add-ons.

Henderson penned a five-year deal at Selhurst Park.

Remi Matthews has been named on the bench in Henderson’s absence, with Sam Johnstone starting every game in the Premier League so far this season under Hodgson.
