Proportion of low-emission vehicles now higher in Westminster than anywhere else in the country

Drivers in Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham are among the most eco-friendly in the UK, according to a study.

Westminster has the highest percentage of ultra-low emission vehicles on the roads, according to new findings.

But Hammersmith and Fulham also makes it into the top 10 local authorities in the country.

The survey reflects the impact of introducing a daily charge for vehicles entering the central London low emission zone, which penalises the heaviest polluters.

The study was conducted by accident compensation experts Claims.co.uk, using the most recent data collected in the third quarter of 2023 from GOV.UK.

Claims.co.uk analysed the number of licensed ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV) as a percentage of all licensed vehicles in the UK.

Westminster takes the crown with the highest percentage of environmentally friendly vehicles.

In the third quarter of 2023, the central London local authority had 18,331 ultra-low emission vehicles compared to 65,900 with all fuel types, equating to 28 per cent of all licensed vehicles.
