Update: Smoke remains in Charlton area after blaze in derelict warehouse
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has confirmed a fire in a derelict warehouse in Charlton has been brought under control.
Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters remain at the scene in Penhall Road.
A single-storey derelict warehouse was alight. There have been no reports of any injuries.
Road closures remain in place and local traffic is impacted, including on the A206 Woolwich Road in both directions.
A spokeswoman from the LFB said: “Although the fire has now been brought under control, there is still smoke travelling in the local area and people are advised to continue to keep windows and doors closed at this time.”
Two 32 metre turntable ladders were used by firefighters to assist at the scene, including one used as a water tower to help fight the fire from above.
The LFB received about eight calls about the fire, with the first report received at around 9.50am.
Crews from East Greenwich, Greenwich, New Cross, Poplar, Millwall and surrounding fire stations have been at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the LFB said.
