Sutton Amnesty call for prisoners release at village fete
By Auriel Glanville
The Manor Park Village Fete took place on Saturday with a dog show, dance troupes, stilt walkers and many stalls.
Sutton Amnesty were also there and met the Town Cryer, Jeff Richards.
Members of Sutton Amnesty asked visitors to sign letters for prisoners of conscience to try and get them released from prison in the United Emirate States, Islamic Republic of Iran, Egypt and Russia. The letters will be going to their embassies.
Graham Bisset, Chairman of Sutton Amnesty, said: “We were pleased that so many people stopped at our stall to sign letters for Dr. Mohammed al-Roken, Toomaj Salehi, Alaa Abdel Fattah and Maria Ponomarenko, including the Town Cryer, Jeff Richards.”
The group has been active in Sutton for nearly 50 years.
The group meets at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each month at the Friends Meeting House, 10 Cedar Road, Sutton SM2 5DA. It is also possible to join the meetings remotely.
