South London sprint pair land silver medals in women’s 4x100m relays at Paris 2024

Dina Asher-Smith and Imani-Lara Lansiquot picked up silver medals as part of the GB team in the 4x100m relays at the Olympics.

Orpington’s Asher-Smith was so close to a bronze in the women’s 200m finals earlier on this week.

She handed over to Peckham’s Lansiquot in yesterda’s event in Parish as the GB side were brought home by Daryll Neita in 41.78.

Asher-Smith, 28, said: “We’re all so proud and so happy.

“We’ve worked so hard for this. So to be challenging not just for a medal but challenging for a gold is phenomenal. I just wanted to get to Imani first, I wanted to make sure I handed over to her with nobody in sight. I wanted to hand the baton in first and I set up the ladies for a phenomenal run.

“Bianca (Williams) and Desiree (Henry) [who ran in the heats] get to be on the podium with us, which is so special. I love how the championships are giving everyone medals and letting the full squad get their moment because this is truly a team effort, not just us four and those two but we’ve worked so hard as a women’s relay squad since 2012 and for the last 10 years we’ve been pushing and we know we’re that good but we had to put the work in. So to be able for us all to step on the podium with everyone will be a special moment.”

Lansiquot, 26, added: “I was really happy with my leg and what we did as a team.

“Twice in a row we had bronze and today we got silver. We wanted the gold so we were disappointed but you can’t be unhappy with an Olympic silver medal. We showed that we’re consistent, that we believe in ourselves and I’m so proud of us.”
