Crystal Palace boss explains Chadi Riad’s injury substitution in Norwich EFL Cup win
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner says Chadi Riad will miss the Premier League outing against Chelsea on Sunday after suffering suspected ligament damage in his knee in the 4-0 EFL Cup win over Norwich on Tuesday evening.
The Morrocan made his Eagles debut in the 2–0 defeat at home to West Ham on Saturday afternoon and was kept in the starting 11 for the EFL Cup second-round clash at home to Norwich.
Riad was handed a starting role alongside Nathaniel Clyne and Marc Guehi but was taken off after 10 minutes following a coming together inside the area as he attempted to stop Norwich from scoring an equaliser.
Chris Richards came on for the former Barcelona youngster.
Goals from Eberechi Eze, Daichi Kamada and a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta booked Palace’s place in the third round.
“I don’t have a diagnosis right now,
“It looks like something happened with the ligament in his knee. We all hope it was not too serious.
“It looks like to me he will at least miss the Chelsea game on Sunday. I will be able to tell you on Friday.
“I can’t tell you what he says. He says: ‘It doesn’t look so bad.’
“I can hope.”
