Crystal Palace striker signed new deal before making Premier League loan switch

Odsonne Edouard extended his Crystal Palace deal until the end of the 2026-27 season before heading out on loan to join Leicester City on deadline day, the South London Press has been told.

There was an option to extend Edouard’s deal by one season at the end of the 2024-25 season, but Palace wanted to protect their asset before allowing him to make the season-long switch to Steve Cooper’s side.

Edouard scored 21 goals in 103 games for the Eagles after signing from Celtic in 2021, but Jean-Philippe Mateta established himself as the main striker under Oliver Glasner.

Palace also completed the £30million signing of Eddie Nketiah on deadline day, which would have seen the French striker fall down the pecking order.

Edouard’s new side Leicester head to Selhurst Park this weekend as the Premier League resumes following the international break.

Ex-Palace attacker Jordan Ayew, who made an £8million switch to the King Power this summer too, will be back in South London for the first time since leaving.
