Diwali delights at the Chapter House – as Hindu festivals are celebrated

An evening of art, dance, poetry, music and food was put on at Merton Abbey Mills’ Chapter House to celebrate Kali and Diwali – the Hindu Festival of Lights.

The event, in Colliers Wood, was hosted by venue curator John Hawks last Thursday and organised by Papia Ghoshal, Indian painter, poet, writer, singer and actress, curator of the festivals.

There were performances and displays by Dr Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Isha Kumar, Abanti Mukhopadhyay, Jayeeta Ghosh, Darren Vukasinovic, Aniruddha Mukherjee, and Ieva Pazemeckaite.

In the audience were Lady Sudeley, art connoisseur and writer, James Brooks, programme director for the BBC, Jay Viswadeva, a UK India arts and music producer who founded SAMA arts, 50 years ago in London, and Santiano Terzio, cinematographer in Bollywood and European films.

Papia Ghoshal said: “This was a lovely afternoon and evening, with so many talented people coming to celebrate the Kali and Diwali festivals.  My thanks to John Hawks for his hospitality in hosting this special occasion at the Chapter House.”
