Charlton midfielder: Nobody is guaranteed to be a starter this season

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Jake Forster-Caskey reckons that no player can feel their position is safe in the Charlton side.

The midfielder, who missed most of last season due to knee surgery, signed a new 12-month contract last month.

And Forster-Caskey has spelled out that nobody can rest on their laurels after the Addicks’ promotion from League One.

“Last season was brilliant but that has gone,” he said. “We have got to take confidence from that, but at the same time everyone starts from zero. We’ve got to get points quickly.

“We’re quite realistic, we know we have got a tough challenge ahead.

“No-one can feel like they are safe in this squad. We’ve got to almost out-do ourselves.

“All the players at Charlton have got something to prove in this division.”

Forster-Caskey was denied by Welling keeper Dan Wilks in Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win at Park View Road.

He said: “I took a nice touch but the keeper made a good save. It is about getting in there [the box] at this point. I’d like to score, but it is about doing things right – doing the simple things well.

“You can train all you like but game-time is vital. I was back training for the last six weeks of last season and ticked over in the summer.

“This pre-season is going to be massive for me. But it is for everybody. We know how big the challenge is.”
