Lee Bowyer yet to decide on future of Callum Harriott plus reveals extent of Chuks Aneke and Lewis Page injuries

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer is yet to decide the fate of trialist Callum Harriott.

The Addicks academy graduate has been training with his former side over the last couple of weeks. He was released by Reading at the end of last season but Bowyer has been casting his eye over the midfielder

Harriott played for over an hour of the Addicks’ 2-1 win at Colchester on Tuesday evening – his third pre-season outing since returning to the club.

“Not at the moment, no,” said Bowyer when asked if he is any closer to deciding on the next step for Harriott.

“I thought he did well tonight. He needs to get his fitness up. He’ll do something good but then he’ll be really tired afterwards. We’ll need to get his fitness up to really, truly judge him. I don’t think it will be fair to make a decision now or to judge him now.

“We need to get his fitness up, I think he will agree. The little bits and bobs are good, I like him. We don’t really have another player like him in the club at the moment. I’m liking what I’m seeing at the moment but I want to see more.”

The Addicks boss was also able to provide an update on the fitness of Lewis Page and Chuks Aneke.

Both players limped out of Saturday’s defeat at Gillingham with hamstring injuries.

“Lewis Page will be two to three weeks,” said Bowyer.

“Chuks Aneke is not too bad. He might be training Thursday. He was more of a twinge, just fatigue really. His was just a twinge, nothing serious but Lewis Page was a bit worse and he’ll be two to three weeks.”
