Fulham captain Tom Cairney on “horrible” Barnsley defeat and hoping Friday night form continues for Derby clash
Tom Cairney is confident Fulham can bounce back from their shock home thumping by Barnsley when they head to Derby County tomorrow night.
Former Whites striker Cauley Woodrow netted twice as the rock bottom Tykes won 3-0 at Craven Cottage.
Third-placed Fulham have a tough run of fixtures against promotion rivals to come.
“We’ve won five out of five on Friday night [this season],” Cairney told The Monday Night Fulham Fix. “I’m not putting pressure on ourselves but Friday night has been good to us and hopefully it is going to be the same.
“You could say everything went wrong [against Barnsley]. Collectively and individually we didn’t turn up, show up.
“There were some unforced errors and individual errors. It kind of reminded me of Hull at home – it was the same scoreline and no-one saw it coming.}
“You’re not underestimating the team or players. It’s one of those games which it’s horrible to be involved in. The best thing about the Championship is another game comes soon – hopefully we can put it right.
“I don’t think you can turn that result into a positive, but it starts on the training ground – going back to basics and everyone up for it.
“You’ve got to remember we are still third in the league, still three points off second. The last time we got promoted from this league I swear we were behind the points tally at the same stage. We’ve got to try and think about things like that.
“It’s a long season and we’ve got to stick together.”
