Charlton Athletic manager clear on transfer stance over striker

Lee Bowyer has reiterated that Charlton have not had acceptable bids for striker Macauley Bonne – with reports claiming that Barnsley have expressed interest.

The Addicks manager confirmed last week that the League One club have turned down two offers from QPR.

Celtic have also failed with a couple of bids for left winger Alfie Doughty.

“We received offers for players and Steve [Gallen, director of football] goes to the people upstairs and puts his recommendation – and they came back and say ‘he’s not for sale’,” said Bowyer.

“I think QPR have made a couple of offers now but we have turned them both down.”

Bonne netted 11 times last season in the Championship. He was a cut-price signing from Leyton Orient after Charlton won promotion via the play-offs.

Asked if bidding could get to a level where a deal makes sense, Bowyer replied: “Let’s not forget we bought him for £200,000.

“I think, like with any player, if someone makes an offer which is good enough – that you value them at – then it’s something you always have to consider.”
