Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer was not expecting FA charge
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Lee Bowyer has until Thursday to respond to an FA charge of verbally abusing referee Chris Kavanagh.
The Charlton Athletic manager was sent off in the 47th minute of Charlton’s 2-1 win at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Bowyer watched the remainder of the League One clash from the directors’ box.
But, speaking to the South London Press on Monday morning, the Addicks boss had not expected any further action to be taken.
He said: “I went to see the ref after and he said he has to put a report and they look to see how they deal with it.
“I don’t expect anything more – it wasn’t that bad.
“The first yellow was because I raised my arms when appealing for something – a foul on [Chris] Solly. I thought it was similar to the foul which they then scored from.
“That’s why I appealed. The ref said I can’t raise my arms but if you watch any game up and down the country then managers will appeal and their arms come up in the air.
“I thought that was harsh and it’s why I got the second one.
“I don’t expect any more, there shouldn’t be any more than that – it was a bad enough punishment.”
