Chopstix opens a new restaurant in Croydon

Ready-cooked food may not be everyone’s idea of high cuisine but sometimes it work.

Chopstix has opened a new restaurant in Croydon and I popped along to see if it lived up to the hype.

Self-styled as a noodle bar, a better description might be Pan-Asian cuisine.

Served in the cardboard boxes seen in the American movies – it’s certainly pleasing to the eye.

Choose rice or noodles as the base and then add toppings.

Small boxes enable two toppings, medium – three and large – four.

A large box costs around the £11 mark so represents the best value when feeding a family.

Most of the toppings are Chinese in style – or the western interpretation of the cuisine.

My favourite was Firecracker chicken, which I loved. It is probably too hot for those with no head for chilli but perfect for me.

Sweet, crispy, sticky, it is truly tasty, and I’m reliably informed, one of the restaurants biggest sellers.

Salt & pepper chicken and Caramel Drizzle chicken were rather good also.

There are Thai options but I didn’t fancy this, boxed up on a bed of noodles.

There was a guy who had his work cut out cooking noodles on a hot plate. Noodles look to be a better option than rice, which I’d prefer cooked to order.

The menu comes with calorie counts for each dish, and some are surprisingly low.

Chopstix is warming and surprisingly healthy lunch option, making it a welcome addition to Croydon’s town centre dining.
