Exclusive – Manchester United and Spurs in running to sign AFC Wimbledon academy goalkeeper
AFC Wimbledon academy goalkeeper Spike Brits is attracting interest from a host of top clubs – with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the running to sign the youngster.
The 15-year-old was called up to the England U16 squad in October and started for the Three Lions in their 1-0 defeat to Belgium in October.
Brits was called up to the next squad in December and played the full 80 minutes in the 3-0 win over Turkey.
The young keeper has trained with Wimbledon’s first-team goalkeepers Nik Tzanev and Nathan Broome and was named on the bench for their London Senior Cup game against Balham in October.
But Brits, who plays for the Dons’ U18 side, looks set to be the next one in the long line of goalkeepers to move on after progressing through AFC Wimbledon’s academy ranks.
Matthew Cox was sold to Brentford for an undisclosed fee at the start of last season.
Former England U21 keeper Joesf Bursik, who joined Belgian side Club Brugge in the January transfer window, left Wimbledon in 2017 on a permeant deal to join Stoke City.
Will Mannion also came through at AFC Wimbledon’s youth team, leaving for Hull City in 2016, with the Tigers having to pay a tribunal fee after securing his services.
