Former Millwall captain’s exit from League Two club confirmed

Former Millwall defender Tony Craig has agreed to terminate his Crawley Town contract and signed a deal with Dorking Wanderers.

The veteran centre-back surpassed 700 career appearances last season.

And Craig was due to be contracted to the West Sussex club for the 2023-24 campaign as well.

But Crawley Town posted a story on their website yesterday confirming the ex-Lions captain was due to be moving on.

“Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that defender Tony Craig has agreed to mutually terminate his contract, pending EFL approval,” the League Two club said in a statement.

“Tony joined the Reds in the August of 2020 and instantly became a core member of Crawley’s defensive lineup. Craig was part of the famous side that defeated Leeds United 3-0 in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2021. He also starred in a 1-2 away victory at Bradford City, when his last-minute headed goal gave us victory in Yorkshire during the 2021-22 season.

“Everybody at the club would like to thank Tony for his efforts during his time at the club and wishes him the best for the future.”

Craig has penned a two-year deal with Dorking.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be back. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season and when I got the call from the gaffer to return, I didn’t have to think twice. I look forward to returning and seeing all the boys, staff and the fans for the start of the new season.”
