Exhibition: Brilliant Black British History at the Black Cultural Archives
Be transported into a world of brilliant black British history.
A new display is celebrating black history month by transporting visitors into a world of Brilliant Black British History.
The exhibition at the Black Cultural Archives (BCA) in Windrush Square, Brixton is based on a children’s book – Brilliant Black British History – by author, Atinuke, with illustrations by Kingsley Nebechi.
The display will be open to the public for free until January 28.
Ms Atinuke and Mr Kingsley will also be giving a talk at the gallery space on October 28, where they will share their journey to making the book and the research that went into it.
Brilliant Black British History is an eye-opening story of Britain, focusing on a part of the past that has mostly been left out of history books: the black history of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Ms Atinuke was born in Nigeria and moved to the UK when she was a child.
Her first love was performing stories and she now pours her creative talents into writing children’s books, such as the enchanting fiction series Anna Hibiscus.
Her recent picture book, B is for Baby was long-listed for the Kate Greenaway Award.
Mr Nebechi, is a successful Nigerian-British artist, illustrator and graphic designer.
He is a proud Black Lives Matter activist, who has created powerful illustrations for the cause.
