Nigerian dance company set to explode onto stage of Southbank Centre
In their upcoming UK premiere, Nigeria’s leading contemporary dance company are set to explode onto the stage of the Southbank Centre.
Ten young dancers and two musicians from The QDance Company will perform Re-INCARNATION in the Queen Elizabeth Hall of the South London arts centre from September 18 to 19.
Re-INCARNATION tells the cycle of life marked by the urban vibrancy of the Nigerian city of Lagos.
An ode to Nigerian culture, this dance, music, fashion and visual art performance showcases the depth of ancient Yoruba philosophy mixed with Nigerian youth culture.
The show draws on Afrobeats – a cocktail of jazz, soul, funk – and traditional African music, to provide a soundtrack that matches the high-energy choreography.
QDance Company, led by artistic director Qudus Onikeku, is a Lagos-based contemporary dance company with an international outlook, working with dancers from different cultures and backgrounds.
Victoria will also have the chance to join the QDance Company after the September 18 performance, for a live DJ set – AFRO SPACE TIME TRAVEL – in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer.
Curated and hosted by QDance Company artistic director Qudus Onikeku, and musical director Olatunde Obajuen, the event features sounds from Lagos to get you grooving to the rhythms of Africa.
