Colourful celebration of Saraswati Puja in Wimbledon

The festival of Joy and Happiness – Saraswati Puja – is returning to Wimbledon for the third year at Merton Arts Space.
One of the leading Indian classical music promoters Saudha is hosting the event as part of the worship for the Hindu mythical goddess of arts and knowledge.
The celebration emphasizes spiritual joy and happiness through profound music, haunting world-poetry and dazzling dance.
The free event, from 5-9pm on 10 February 2019 has devotional compositions of Tagore, the first Nobel laureate in literature from the East, by a prominent Tagore singer Dr Imtiaz Ahmed and his group, Anadadhara.
Curated by one of the finest Indian classical vocalist in the West Srimati Chandra Chakraborty, pictured, the festival will also feature her three senior disciples Anuja Pradhan, Satarupa Ghosh and Dr Priya Bhagwat along with a dazzling rendition of Bharatnatyam dance by Sharmishtha Pandit and poetry reading by an Argentine poet Gaby Sambuccetti, Urdu poet Jenumz Naqvi, Ayub Aulia etc.
Director of Saudha Ahmed Kaysher said: “The festival is shaping up as a true community event in Wimbledon with an ever-flowing attendance from South Asian, Latin American, African, European and almost every community. The event has been hugely successful for the last two years in terms of our aim to create a new audience of classical music and other art forms through community festival.
“Apart from the devotional side of the event, this helps us introduce the ordinary audiences with the post-modern presentations of art and music we work on. We are expecting to have a larger participation from the local community this year, too,”
The festival also includes light dinner after the performances.
