Met police officer fined for assault after slapping member of the public across the face

A Met police officer has been found guilty of common assault after slapping a member of the public across the face.

The incident happened while he was on duty in Penfold Street, Lisson Grove, on October 15 last year.

When his colleague stopped to speak to a pedestrian riding a moped, PC Anthony Walters, based at the Central West Command Unit, spoke to another member of public.

It was during this conversation that he slapped the victim across the face, without lawful authority to use force.

A complaint was made to the Met. PC Walters was formally charged on March 20.

PC Walters was fined £1,400 for the offence at Hendon Magistrates’ Court and is currently on restricted duties.
