Witnesses needed over firearms incident in Dulwich

Police investigating a firearms incident in Dulwich have charged a man as they continue to appeal for witnesses and information.

At around 9.50am yesterday, police received reports of a fight and a sighting of a shotgun in Crystal Palace Road, East Dulwich.

Officers found a man being restrained by members of the public. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Officers intervened and arrested a 31-year-old man. The arrested man was taken to a central London hospital for treatment to minor injuries before being taken to a South London police station, where he was earlier today charged with attempted murder and firearm offences.

The man attended Croydon Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, who had been threatened with the firearm, sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Detective Constable Imran Hansraj, of the Specialist Crime Command (Trident), said: “Although a man has been charged, I still want to hear from anyone who has any information.

“The incident took place outside a residential address in a quiet street with no apparent motivation – anyone who has information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should call police without delay.

“We are working tirelessly to take weapons off the street and identify and pursue violent offenders to bring them to justice, but we can’t do this alone, I am appealing to everyone in the local community to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or community concerns to police.”
