QPR player ratings from 0-0 draw with Bristol City – Paul Smyth catches the eye but Rangers fail to find the net as winless run continues

QPR continued their winless run as they played out an uneventful 0-0 draw with Bristol City at Loftus Road.

Rangers failed to register a shot on target in what was Marti Cifuentes’ first home game in charge, meaning they have now gone 11 games without a victory.

 Here are Dan Evans’ player ratings from Loftus Road.

Asmir Begovic – 6

Hardly had anything to do with his hands throughout the game but did at times look awkward with the ball at his feet.

Osman Kakay – 6

A positive showing defensively from Kakay as he replaced the injured Reggie Cannon, yet it was hard not to feel that the American’s ability on the ball was missed as QPR tried to build attacks. Still, two clearances and three tackles from the stand-in made up a solid display.

Steve Cook – 6

Seems a key figure in helping this QPR side adjust to what is being asked of them by their new manager. Was happy to receive the ball under pressure when called upon and made a few nice forward passes to his side on the front foot.

Jimmy Dunne – 6

Will possibly take time to adapt to building attacks from the back, and was guilty of taking the easy option in possession a couple of times. Stood up defensively though, making several key defensive blocks late on as Bristol City enjoyed a late spell of pressure.

Kenneth Paal – 6

Seems a natural fit as an inverted full-back on the left-hand side. Kept his composure to play through the Bristol City press nicely on occasions and was also alert defensively to snap up a couple of loose balls throughout a scrappy game.

Andre Dozzell – 6

Looked more comfortable being asked to start attacks from deep than some of his colleagues but was one of several who struggled to impact the game further up the pitch.

Sam Field – 6

Was dependable at the base of the QPR midfield, keeping things simple in possession and called upon to break up Bristol City counterattacks when the ball was lost. His four tackles were as many as anyone on the pitch managed.

Jack Colback – 5

Was guilty of giving the ball away more than once in his own half in the first half and struggled to impact the game in an attacking sense. Was replaced by Elijah Dixon-Bonner in the final 10 minutes and the midfield looked more balanced.

Paul Smyth – 7

By far QPR’s most threatening player in attack, giving Bristol City left-back Cameron Pring a torrid afternoon. However, his final ball was lacking at the crucial moment and a number of his crosses into the box could have been more dangerous. Replaced by Taylor Richards late on after appearing to take a knock.

Lyndon Dykes – 6

Battled well for most of the afternoon but was largely starved of service as QPR again struggled to fashion chances. Won five aerial duels and linked effectively with Smyth in moments. Replaced by Sinclair Armstrong with just under 20 minutes to play.

Chris Willock – 5

Showed flashes of his quality and combined well with Paal on the left flank at times. However, he failed to make the most of a number of opportunities when he was one v one with a defender and seemed to struggle to make the right decisions with the ball in the final third.

Sinclair Armstrong – 6

Added some dynamism to the QPR attack late on but needed to do more with the ball when he picked it up in dangerous areas.

Elijah Dixon-Bonner – 6

A good cameo from the midfielder after a strong showing at Rotherham last week. His willingness to look forward when in possession will surely suit Cifuentes going forward.

Taylor Richards – 5

A few nice touches but was shrugged off the ball too easily more than once.
