Charlton Athletic agree fee for Posh frontman Clarke-Harris

Charlton Athletic have agreed a fee with Peterborough for their striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

The South London Press understands that the Addicks – who have made Clarke-Harris their number one forward target in the January window – have bid in the region of £500,000.

Charlton’s technical director Andy Scott will open talks with Clarke-Harris and his representative to see if personal terms can be agreed.

Clarke-Harris is due to be a free agent at the end of the season and would be entitled to leave on a free transfer if he does not renew with Peterborough.

The 29-year-old has scored 10 goals in 24 matches for the Posh in the current campaign, including a double in his last match for them – the 2-2 draw with Barnsley on December 29.

It remains to be seen if Clarke-Harris features for Peterborough in their FA Cup third round tie at home to Leeds United tomorrow.

He has netted 84 times in 170 matches for Posh and prior to that has had spells at Bristol Rovers, Rotherham United, Oldham Athletic and Coventry.

Charlton know they need to add in their frontline department with Miles Leaburn out until at least the end of this season and Chuks Aneke also stop-start since his return to SE7 due to injuries. Top scorer Alfie May has also missed their two most recent games – including today’s fixture at Port Vale – with a back injury.
