Charlton Athletic set to fill a coaching spot as Michael Appleton confirms development

Michael Appleton is set to have a backroom appointment filled before Charlton Athletic’s League One match at Stevenage on Saturday.

The Addicks appointed the 47-year-old as their head coach last Friday.

And there are other spots that need to be filled after Danny Senda and Glyn Shimell both left their coaching roles.

Stephen Henderson has temporarily replaced Shimell as goalkeeping coach.

Senda was first-team assistant manager – the same role that Anthony Hayes holds.

Jason Pearce had taken interim control of first-team affairs after Dean Holden was sacked with Hayes acting as his number two.

But Appleton made no mention of Hayes in his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

Asked about whether any other members of staff would be in place before his first game in charge of the Addicks, Appleton said: “I certainly expect one to be in the dugout with me on Saturday.

“I don’t want to kill it, just in case (by saying who it is). I’m pretty confidence one will be in the dugout with me and Jason (Pearce).”
