Charlton boss indicates deals could be close as he is quizzed on Peterborough frontman Clarke-Harris
Charlton Athletic head coach Michael Appleton says he would “be daft” not to want a player of the calibre of Peterborough striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.
Our paper reported that the Addicks have made an enquiry for the Posh frontman, who scored twice in their 2-2 draw at home to Barnsley tonight.
Clarke-Harris is out of contract at the end of the season.
The South London Press also understands that Charlton have also checked on the availaibility of Wigan’s Stephen Humphrys. The 26-year-old has netted seven times this season and started in their 2-0 victory over Carlisle United this evening.
Asked about the link to Clarke-Harris, Appleton said: “I think you’d be daft if you wouldn’t be interested in them type of players – the amount of goals they have scored at this level.
“Obviously it is one of them – we’re going to be linked with absolutely every single player available or every single player who is any inkling they are either not getting any game time, they are not happy or out of contract – this is part and parcel of the process.
“From our point of view, we are in a position where we are good to go on a couple of signings and hopefully, keep our fingers crossed, everything that needs to get done gets done and we can get one or two over the line.”
