Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher set for Atletico Madrid transfer

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atletico Madrid.

The Blues have accepted a £33million offer from the La Liga side for the former Crystal Palace loanee.

There were concerns from Spain about whether the 24-year-old England international would be willing to make the switch from Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis for the first time in his career.

However, Gallagher is now set for a medical in the Spanish capital ahead of ending his 18-year association with the west Londoners.

Gallagher has less than one year left on his current Chelsea deal and turned down a two-year deal with an option for an extra year.

He was named in Gareth Southgate’s final tournament squad as manager and played five matches at Euro 2024.

Gallagher would have played an inferior role in Enzo Maresca’s possession-based style of play.
