Dons set for double striker boost for Wycombe match
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
AFC Wimbledon manager Wally Downes is set to have James Hanson and Kwesi Appiah fit for tomorrow’s game at Wycombe Wanderers.
Hanson has recovered from a virus while Appiah has missed the last three fixtures with a hamstring strain.
The Dons have scored just 15 goals in 22 League One games.
“Within the squad it is about getting the three or four strikers available all the time,” said Downes, pictured left. “We didn’t have Hanson for the Rochdale game and the most he could give on Saturday was 20 minutes.
“Joe Pigott goes down [with a thigh injury] – there’s your two that have been leading the line most of the time. Now Mitch Pinnock is suspended.
“You’re trying to instil some confidence but we haven’t had a lot [of forwards] available. Kwesi played for the reserves on Tuesday and comes back into consideration. Hanson will be fine, so that is a bit better than it was last week.
“But we have three or four more down with the virus. Jake Jervis and Wordy [Anthony Wordsworth] were not able to train at the start of this week.
“You try and isolate people but with a virus it kind of trickles through over the course of the week.”
