‘He’s had a great impact’ – Millwall boss has praise for returning player as they help earn a point at St Andrew’s
Gary Rowett hailed the impact of Mason Bennett after he returned from injury to come off the bench in Millwall’s 2-2 draw at Birmingham City.
Bennett’s delivery was met by the head of Danny McNamara before Oliver Burke tapped home to level for the first time on the afternoon.
Rowett said: “He had a great impact – he was excellent. He came on at the right time to give us that little bit of quality.
“It was a difficult game to start him, because he didn’t have enough match fitness to play from the start.
“We always knew the likes of Tyler Burey and the likes of Mason, coming on late, would give us fresh legs and impetus because we knew the game was going to be pretty tight.
“Had we not have made the mistakes, it would’ve probably been 0-0 going into the last 20 minutes.
“But he made the difference – a great cross for the goal and Danny McNamara gets into another attacking position and Burkey follows it up.
“Burkey was excellent as well today. His pace caused lots and lots of problems for Birmingham ,we just didn’t give him enough quality service.”
