Manchester United injury news ahead of Crystal Palace visit – New signing could be handed debut with forward a doubt

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has said that he will have a decision to make about whether new signing Wout Weghorst will make his debut against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils manager also said that Anthony Martial was forced off at half time against Manchester City because he was not 100 per cent.

United are just nine points off top-of-the-table Arsenal after their 2-1 Manchester derby win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on the weekend.

Dutch forward Weghorst, 30, became the second January transfer window, signing for the 13-time Premier League winners on a six-month loan from Burnley.

The 30-year-old cancelled his scheduled season-long spell with Turkish side Besiktas to join United.

“I have to think about that,” said Ten Hag, when asked whether Weghorst could make his debut at Selhurst Park tomorrow night.

“First, settle down after this game [against City], make the right conclusions and then we will make a clear plan for Palace.

“Of course, I know a lot about Palace – we faced them also in pre-season and know how their team is – but the total plan I don’t have now. From this point on, we can construct the plan and prepare the team in the right way.”

Anthony Martial came off at half-time in the 2-1 win over City.

“I hoped to avoid that he was getting injured, but he was complaining,” said Ten Hag of Martial.

“We decided – and he decided as well – to start. He begged to start. I knew the start would be so important in this game, and he is really good at pressing and he is a really big element in our pressing.

“But I needed to re-evaluate at half-time as you saw he was not capable of going 100 per cent – this is what you need. To avoid him getting injured, we took him off, but it also had a negative impact on our game after half-time.”
