Millwall boss reveals if wholesale changes will be afoot for Huddersfield finale

Millwall manager Gary Rowett is intending to play the side that gives him the greatest chance of winning their Championship finale against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday – despite the South London club no longer being in the play-off mix.

Huddersfield beat West Bromwich Albion on Friday to ensure they were safe from relegation.

The Terriers sacked Danny Cowley on Sunday afternoon.

Millwall’s top-six hopes were scuppered by a 4-3 defeat at QPR on Saturday. They can no longer catch Cardiff City, who occupy the final play-off position.

Asked about making changes for the final fixture, Rowett said: “My first instinct is not to just treat the last game as an opportunity for people – to treat it like we want to go and win it.

“And if that gives some players’ opportunities – because I feel like they deserve it – then that’s one thing.

“If it means some of the players have to go again then they’ll have to show the mentality to go again.

“We want to win the last game and we want to finish the season strongly – simple as that.”
