Portsmouth chief left disappointed as Stockley opts for Charlton Athletic move

Portsmouth chief executive Andy Cullen has expressed his disappointment at missing out on signing Jayden Stockley, who signed for Charlton Athletic.

Stockley spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan with the Addicks and scored eight goals in 22 appearances.

Portsmouth agreed a fee with Preston North End but the 27-year-old’s preference was a return to South London

Speaking to The Portsmouth News, Cullen said: “It’s disappointing when you’ve done a lot of work with a player to bring them into the building, and you think everything is agreed. You’ve agreed terms, you’ve agreed everything with the parent club and for whatever reason, it doesn’t happen at the end of the day.

“Ultimately the player’s in charge and it’s his choice where he wants to go ultimately.

“I’ve been here many, many times before and benefitted from it many times before as well, I have to say. That is the nature of the game, so we will dust ourselves down on that particular one and go again.”
