‘So much potential’ – Johnnie Jackson talks through Aron Sasu’s wing-back role in AFC Wimbledon’s pre-season defeat vs Brentford
AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson believes Aron Sasu suits the wing-back role and has backed the youngster to reach the very top of the game.
Sasu started last Saturday’s 5-2 pre-season defeat against Premier League side Brentford as a left-wing back in a back five, which became a back three in attack.
The 19-year-old Croydon-born forward made 31 appearances after penning his first senior deal and signed a new two-year contract this summer.
Jackson told the South London Press: “The kid has got so much potential.
“I have got such high hopes for him – I think he could play at the very top one day.
“He might end up playing down the middle as a nine, but he’s equally as good down the sides as well.
“That role suits him. The system can be defensive or attacking, depending on how you go about it and who you’re playing.
“I’m happy to play wingers in those positions to try to get them on the ball. They have to do the defensive side of it, which he’ll learn and he’s getting better at.
“But really we want him to play like a winger and get him on the ball in one-against-one situations.
“When you do that, he’s really good in those situations.”
