“Terrible” – Ben Marshall brutally honest on second loan spell at Millwall
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Ben Marshall has described his second loan spell at Millwall as “terrible” – and reckons that was partly down to suffering with depression.
The 29-year-old is playing non-league for Stoneclough after his Norwich City contract was ripped up in July 2019.
Marshall was a huge success on loan with the Lions in the 2017-18 campaign but made no impression in another stint a year later.
Millwall had wanted to sign the winger in the summer of 2018 but were blown away financially by the Canaries.
Marshall, talking to Undr The Cosh podcast – said:
“At first I was like ‘f****** no chance – I ain’t going on loan there’. But I loved it.
“We got near enough to the play-offs and Neil Harris was brilliant – and the squad.
“That perked me up a bit. At the end of the season that was when Norwich came in.
“The first loan spell was brilliant and the second loan spell was terrible.
“I don’t know why. We weren’t winning and my performances weren’t there.
“I was probably falling out of love with it and my head wasn’t all there. I was down.”
