Wimbledon’s EFL Cup clash vs Newcastle rearranged for St James’ Park after Plough Lane flooding

AFC Wimbledon have confirmed that their EFL Cup third round clash against Newcastle United will now take place at St James’ Park on October 1 after extensive flooding to Plough Lane.

The game was set to take place at Wimbledon this coming Tuesday, but it was called off on Monday after extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas.

The League Two home match against Crewe Alexandra, which was scheduled for 1 October, has been postponed due to the cup tie.

No announcement has been made for this Saturday’s upcoming League Two fixture against Accrington Stanley.

Wimbledon said in their statement: “We will confirm ticket arrangements as soon as possible (including refund process for the original fixture), and we are actively working with local travel companies on coach travel for our supporters wishing to travel as we recognise this will be extremely difficult for supporters looking to travel to support the Dons for this hugely anticipated fixture.”

Wimbledon fans have set up a JustGiving page to help the club get games back on at Plough Lane. They have already raised over half of their £10,000 target.
