Women’s football round-up: Charlton continue winning ways in the Championship and Millwall claim emphatic FA Cup qualifying win

Charlton Athletic continued their winning ways in the Women’s Championship after claiming a 2-0 win at London City Lionesses on Sunday afternoon.

The Addicks claimed all three points thanks to first-half goals from Angela Addison and Carla Humphrey.

Charlton – who have claimed two wins on the bounce in the second tier – moved up to fifth in the Championship, four points off table-topping Blackburn Rovers.

“I’m really pleased,” Charlton boss Karen Hills told the club website.

“The players thoroughly deserved that win today.

“Two back-to-back wins, two clean sheets and six points on the board – that’s really positive.

“The performance today was outstanding from every single one of them.

“We talk about the starting 11, but it’s the 11 that finish [the game that are equally important].

“The game changers that came on impacted and helped us continue with driving forward.

“Our defensive display was excellent – we pride ourselves on keeping those clean sheets.

“The front line did everything they possibly could – they ground them down and worked hard in that first half.

“Every single player on that pitch deserved some credit today.”

Crystal Palace’s Championship game at home to Sheffield United was postponed following the death of Blades midfielder Maddy Cusack.

The Eagles head to league leaders Blackburn on Sunday.

Millwall Lionesses claimed an emphatic 11-0 win over Regent’s Park Rangers in the second qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.

Four strikes from Grace Laverick, a hat-trick from Emma Whitter and a brace from Ella Bailey, along with goals from Melissa Jones and Grace Seely, saw Millwall book their place in the first proper round of the cup.

AFC Wimbledon women continue their National League Division One South East campaign at home to Cambridge United next Sunday.
