Zoom in, get collaborating to sort social distancing

Hi councillors and council officers

See below a comment on Peckham Vision’s Facebook page. It is fully backed up by my own observations.

It is not surprising that we are now faced with more draconian measures to stop the Covid-19 transmission.

When are you going to do something to get educational notices in huge print all around the town centre to explain what social distancing means and arrange for police, council officers and others to visit the shops that are not doing what they should inside their stores and help them understand?

For goodness sake let’s have some imaginative thinking outside the box to get us all working together.

We need new working styles for collaboration. Could you organise a zoom event to bring all key people together in the town centre to discuss the issues and get a collaborative approach?

I have been drawing attention to these issues through councillors for some weeks. I look forward to a substantive response leading to action.

The comment on the facebook site Avoid Peckham’s main Rye Lane shopping area during these pandemic times. I just had to visit my ‘high street bank’ because an online bank transaction has ‘gone missing’.

Was shocked that very busy Rye Lane had a minimal few wearing masks or were adhering to social-distancing.

Glanced in passing into the Pound Shop which I have liked to peruse for a bargain.

Was immediately put off seeing close-queueing and, again, no mask wearing.

Particularly troubling when we learn BAME people are apparently more susceptible to Covid’s complications – especially as a second wave is imminently threatened.

A rather scary experience I have to say having not visited the centre of Peckham regularly for months.
